Glasses for Everyone!

The above is a photo of a man wearing ‘adjustable glasses’, a relatively new invention that has the potential to change the lives of many who can’t afford/access an optometrist. Josh Silver plans to disseminate a billion sets of these bad boys by the year 2020, at the cost of 1$ a pair.

How do they work?

Inside the device’s tough plastic lenses are two clear circular sacs filled with fluid, each of which is connected to a small syringe attached to either arm of the spectacles. The wearer adjusts a dial on the syringe to add or reduce amount of fluid in the membrane, thus changing the power of the lens. [says The Guardian]

30,000 have been distributed so far.
